Ep. #7: Tracy Carmen Watkin, Hospitality Manager to Content Manager/Writer

Hey Flippers! Jenny here, and I recently had the absolute pleasure of chatting with my dear friend Tracy Watkin on the podcast. Now, Tracy and I chat every day through WhatsApp voice notes—can we all agree that voice notes are such a fun way to stay in touch? Tracy is one of the most supportive, caring friends I know, and she puts her heart and hard work into everything she does. Her story is a whirlwind of inspiration for me, and I hope it will be for you too.

From hospitality to office management, a life-changing move to Europe with her husband (who you'll meet in a future episode!), and diving into the world of writing, Tracy’s journey is all about embracing change and working through imposter syndrome.

Tracy’s career path is a testament to the magic that happens when you say yes to opportunities. Born and raised in California, she started her career in hospitality management, switched to managing office buildings, and then took one life-changing trip to Europe. That adventure led her to relocate, and she eventually found her way into the writing world through publishing a travel book and content writing for recipe apps as well as at a tech startup. Amazing, right?

Despite being a published writer, Tracy often felt like she was “faking it.” Imposter syndrome—ugh, we’ve all been there, right? She shared how she constantly works on her self-talk to boost her confidence and acknowledge her accomplishments. Recognize those “I’m not good enough” moments and challenge them with positive affirmations. Celebrate your wins, no matter how small. Seriously, give yourself some credit!

Tracy is a lifelong learner. When she feels stuck, she doesn't just sit around—she goes out and learns new skills. She became a certified personal trainer and took on new writing projects. Her dedication to learning kept her relevant and opened up new opportunities. Side projects can bring joy and extra income, and they let you explore new interests without the pressure of a full career switch. Who doesn’t love that?

And get this—she doesn't limit herself to one field. Tracy has explored multiple passions, from getting her personal training certification to travel curation. Her story shows us that it’s okay to diversify our interests. Why stick to one thing when there’s a whole world out there to explore?

Through all her career flips, Tracy leans on her support network. Having friends, family, and colleagues who believe in you makes a world of difference. Tracy and I send voice notes to each other, sharing our ups and downs, and that support has been a lifeline.

Tracy’s journey is a beautiful reminder that embracing career flips and overcoming imposter syndrome can lead to incredible opportunities. Keep learning, build a strong support network, and don’t be afraid to explore new interests. Stay resilient, stay curious, and keep flipping those careers!
